What a fantastic hike with my dog, couple weeks before when i did the Pleureur i watched carefully the ridge of Mont Rouges du Giétro, it seemed not so difficult, this Sunday i returned to the Val de Bagnes to do this hike.
As always i started from the parking at the hotel Mauvoisin, went up by the road and crossed the wall of the Mauvoisin dam, the path continues south, cross some tunels, half hour later it climbs to Écuries du Giétro at 2190m, then it continues south while heading to Lac de Tsofeiret(2572m), a couple minutes after passing the lake i reach the Col de Tsofeiret(2628m), at this point i change direction, to north, heading to Col de Lire Rose(3114m), during this part i watched a group of 8 bouquetins.
Once at this col i stayed with Col du Mont Rouge ahead, i go down for a couple minutes and then i make the traverse by passing a section of loose rock, until i find again some cairns after passing a snowfield, the progression is never difficult, once at the col du Mont Rouge i stay next to glacier du Giétro, i continued by the ridge of the Mount Rouge du Giétro, at the highest point, 3439m, the view is awesome to glacier du Giétro, La Ruinette and Mont Blanc de Cheilon.
I did a pause of about one hour at this summit, conditions were top, then i continued to north, sometimes is better to get out of the edge of the ridge to avoid some delicate sections, after i reach Col du Giétro at 3104m, that’s where the descent to écuries du Giétro starts. 900m of altitude separate this 2 points, i did not see cairns so went down by the easiest way, no path at all and sometimes quite steep.
At the Écuries du Giétro i followed the same path to join the starting point, Mauvoisin.
What a magnificent hike, i was alone with my dog all day.
