Lake Monowai lookout tour

In this fourth day we were ready to start our journey towards the south, our plan B was to do the Southern Scenic Route and hike all the highlights on the way, seeing penguins and sea lions in their natural environment was also a major gold.

At 7 a.m. while preparing to leave the parking the mister who does the control of the tickets told us that the road to Milford Sound will open that morning and if we were in that direction we would be one the "firsts", we knew that is not possible to hike in that region, only do boat tours, but the weather was not awesome, far from it, but the road is quite impressive mainly when it passes the tunnel, astonishing scenario!

At 10 a.m. we start heading south, allow 2 hours between Milford Sound and Te Anau, our first detour was to visit Lake Monowai, where we did the lookout track, 30 minutes retour, very peaceful and away from the crowds, after that we continued south, at a certain moment there is a sign “Clifden Caves”, i thought it was a small cave, when i arrived i saw 3 tourists at the moment they were about to exit the cave, i ask them if it was nice and how long they been inside, they said that was beautiful and they stayed inside the cave for about 45 minutes, i went call my wife to come inside but she tould me to go alone, with two sources of light i went inside and it was a magnificent experience discover this awesome cave, it is a unguided tour, at the entrance of the cave there are 3 helmets, make sure you use one, sometimes the only possible passage is very thin, hapilly i’m also very thin. Really an impressive experience this limestone cave, always pay attention, if you hear raining outside you must exit as fast as you can, i went until a point where there was a big pool, at about 25/30 minutes after entering the cave, very beatiful scenario inside.

Once at the camping car we did another detour to visit the beatiful lake Hauroko, inside the national Park area, just in time to watch the sunset, we had dinner at the parking, but it’s not possible to spend the night there and it was very very windy, so went back until the border of the national Park where there is a nice parking for self-contained cars, once again we went sleep at 11 p.m. , another intense day!
