This Sunday i got up early to go do some backcountry skiing in the region of Arolla.
Once at Arolla(2080m) i verified that the Contemplateurs route was closed, but closed means that is not marked, that’s all, i know quite well the area so i was relaxed, i start by heading West, always a little far from the pistes, once on the way to Les Fontanesses i saw a nice snow path to a col between Mont Rouges d’Arolla and La Cassorte, after seeing that i changed my plans and went in the direction of this Col.
The snow was good, not icy, and the weather was awesome, i left my skis 100m before the col because there is a couloir to access the col and it is too steep for my ski level, i went by foot and once at the col, La Cassorte stays just near by, in 10 minutes i was at the summit of La Cassorte(3300m), tremendous view.
i stayed at least half hour up there, after that i went down to join my skis and then, almost one hour of pleasure and different types of snow until join the starting point, fantastic day!
